I offer individualised maths and literacy support for students who are having difficulties accessing the curriculum at their year level.

I help each student progress by breaking down each skill into incremental achievable steps they feel confident with, and then giving them the practice they need to master each step and be ready to move on.

I draw on training in educational psychology and a wide variety of evidence-based programmes and research to inform my approach. This allows me to find what works best for each student. I offer support to students experiencing dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, dyscalculia, auditory processing difficulties and autism.

Tutoring

I work primarily at the following schools in the South Wellington area. If your child attends one of them I can usually see them at school during normal class time.

  • Berhampore School
  • Hataitai School
  • South Wellington Intermediate School

If you have an intermediate aged child at another school, I can offer after school tutoring at your home, although I have limited spaces available for this.

Tutoring usually comprises a 45 minute session each week. If your child needs support with both literacy and maths it is usually best to have a second session, depending on availability.

At each lesson I will find the student’s learning zone (the skill or part of a skill that they need to master in order to progress further) and create customised homework to give them the practice they need to move on. You will need to commit to four home practice sessions with your child each week to make progress.

During the first few sessions I will carry out assessments. These are done in a relaxed way and the results are used to set the starting level for tuition as well as giving a baseline to measure progress from. I will assess and report on your child’s progress twice a year.

Payment

Payment is by term at a cost of $84 per session for one session per week, plus $100 per term for planning and reporting. If your child sees me twice a week the second session will be charged at $65 per session (prices include GST). A single invoice for the whole term is sent in week 2 or 3 of the term.

Missed Sessions Policy

  • Planned Absences — If you notify me of planned absences (such as holidays) before invoices are sent at the end of Week 2 of term, you will only be charged for the sessions your child attends that term.
  • Unplanned Absences — For unplanned absences due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, I will prepare a homework pack providing revision activities aligned with your child's current learning. This will be provided for you to work through at home.
  • Make-up Sessions — Occasionally, if another student is absent during the same period, I may be able to offer an alternative session time. This is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
  • Extended Illness — In rare cases where a student is away from school for an extended period, a credit note for missed sessions may be applied to the following term.
